Ask anyone who lives in Whistler how big a home you need and they’ll tell you to look past the bedroom count. A five bedroom home can sleep ten or twelve depending on the beds, and a six bedroom home can sleep the same twelve. This post matches your group to the homes we manage across Whistler, so you can book the right size the first time.

How many bedrooms do I need for 6, 8, 10 or 12 guests?

Start with how many guests the home sleeps, then check the bedrooms and the standard and maximum occupancy on the listing. As a rule of thumb, 6 guests fit a 3 bedroom home, 8 fit a 4 bedroom home, 10 fit a 5 bedroom home and 12 fit a 5 or 6 bedroom home.

We manage around 50 homes in Whistler, and 37 of them have 3 to 6 bedrooms: 16 with 3 bedrooms, 16 with 4, 4 with 5 and 1 with 6. Together those 37 homes sleep 319 guests, an average of about 8.6 per home.

Is a home’s bedroom count the same as how many it sleeps?

No. Bedrooms describe the layout and “sleeps” counts the beds, so the two numbers can differ from one home to the next. Taluswood Ridge #14 has 6 bedrooms and sleeps 12, and Northern Lights #11 has 5 bedrooms and also sleeps 12.

Read the “sleeps” number on the listing first, then check the bedroom mix against who is coming. A couple who wants privacy and a grandparent who’d like a room of their own will shape the answer more than the headline number does.

Who is a 3 bedroom home right for, and who needs 4 or more?

A 3 bedroom home suits one or two families, or friends who don’t mind sharing. Four or more bedrooms make sense for multi-generational trips and groups of 8 or more, where everyone wants a door that closes at the end of the day. In our experience, 3 bedroom homes book most often with one or two families or a group of friends, while 4 and 5 bedroom homes are the pick for three generations travelling together.

Which Whistler homes sleep 12?

Taluswood Ridge #14 in Creekside has 6 bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms and sleeps 12, with a private hot tub and a dry sauna.

Northern Lights #11 in Whistler Village has 5 bedrooms, sleeps 12 and has a private hot tub.

Pinnacle Ridge #20 in the Upper Village has 5 bedrooms, a standard occupancy of 10 and a maximum of 12.

Can two homes be booked side by side for a bigger group?

Sometimes. Taluswood Ridge #14 can be booked with two neighbouring Taluswood Ridge homes for up to 26 guests, which is enough for a family reunion. Which homes sit next door and whether they’re free depends on the dates, so ask the team before you plan around it.

When should a large group book?

As early as you can, and by November if you’re planning Christmas or New Year’s in a 4 or 5 bedroom home, as our post on Whistler Christmas and New Year’s rentals explains. We take a one-night deposit, with the balance due 30 days before arrival.

Why book direct with the team that manages the home?

When you book direct, you deal with the same local team that looks after the home, from your first question to checkout day. You also avoid the marketplace service fee. Airbnb’s Help Center describes two structures: a guest fee of 14.1% to 16.5% of the booking subtotal under its split-fee structure, and about 15.5% charged to the host under its host-only structure. How do I get from New York to Whistler?

Fly into Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and travel from there. Whistler is 120 kilometres (75 miles) from Vancouver, about a two-hour drive on the Sea to Sky Highway. Whistler.com lists coach and shuttle buses, private vehicle charters, helicopter charters, a seasonal floatplane and car rentals as ways to make the trip. Aloha Whistler’s concierge can arrange transportation.

There are daily flights to Vancouver from all three New York airports, so it’s a matter of preference. Pick the airport that’s easiest for you to get to and check your airline’s page for current schedules.

What do US visitors need to cross the border?

Canada does not require a visa or an eTA for US nationals or permanent residents. The Government of Canada recommends travelling with a valid passport, and says other identification is an option only if you are not travelling by air, so flying visitors should plan on a passport. US permanent residents flying in need a valid passport from their country of nationality and proof of their US status. How far does a US dollar go in Whistler?

On October 8, 2026 one US dollar bought 1.426 Canadian dollars, so one Canadian dollar cost about 70 US cents and a $1,000 CAD night was about $700 USD. Rates move daily, so check the current rate before you book.

Does my Epic Pass work at Whistler Blackcomb?

It depends on the pass. Whistler.com says the Epic Pass has unlimited access to Whistler Blackcomb with no holiday restrictions. The Epic Local Pass includes 10 combined days of access to Whistler Blackcomb, Vail and Beaver Creek, and Whistler Blackcomb access is restricted during peak periods. What should I bring, and what can the concierge arrange?

Pack warm boots and layers, bring a card without foreign transaction fees and carry your passport. Aloha Whistler’s concierge service can arrange transportation, grocery delivery, ski packages, catering, child care and babysitting, and massage and spa services.

Which Whistler home suits a US family?

A property manager’s best work is the work you never see. Between the day you hand over the keys and the day the owner statement arrives, there are a lot of small things done quietly, at every hour, in every season. This post walks through the day-to-day work behind a managed Whistler vacation home, so you can see what it involves whether you hire a manager or keep doing it yourself.

What does a Whistler property manager do day to day?

A Whistler property manager sets the nightly rates, markets the home, screens and talks to guests, coordinates cleaning and repairs between stays, and reports back to the owner on how the home is doing. At Aloha Whistler that covers revenue optimization, guest screening and communication, housekeeping and maintenance coordination, marketing and direct bookings, and revenue reporting.

Most of it happens out of sight. When it’s done well, the home feels easy for the guests who stay in it and for the owner who isn’t fielding the calls.

Who sets the nightly rate, and how does it change?

We price each home using dynamic pricing technology with human oversight, so the rate follows demand through the season instead of staying fixed. Each home is also benchmarked against comparable Whistler properties every year.

Pricing is the part owners rarely have time to watch. A rate set in September for a February weekend can look wrong by November, which is why someone needs to keep looking at it.

What happens between one guest leaving and the next arriving?

Housekeeping is scheduled around the checkout and the next check-in, and anything that needs attention goes to a maintenance call before the next guests arrive. That coordination is the unglamorous centre of the job, and in winter, when stays run back to back, it decides whether a turnover is calm or frantic.

The details are small and they add up: fresh linens, a hot tub that needs a look, a bulb that has gone. A guest who arrives to a warm, clean home writes a better review, and the review is what the next guest reads.

Who looks after the guests, before and during the stay?

A local team screens the booking, answers questions before arrival and picks up the phone during the stay. We’re Whistler residents and Aloha Whistler has been in business here since 1995, so when snow slows the Sea to Sky Highway or the village fills for a long weekend, we already know what that means for your guests.

How will I know how my home is doing?

You get revenue reporting through the year and an Annual Property Performance Review for every home we manage, which sets the home’s results against comparable Whistler properties. If you’re weighing a change, you can request a confidential Property Performance Review before you commit to anything.

Should I manage it myself or hire a manager?

Hosting yourself works when you live nearby, enjoy the guest side and have the time to be on call. A manager makes sense when you’d rather use the home than run it, and plenty of owners are happy to talk it through before deciding.

Owners are asking what to have in place before the winter season starts, from the holiday calendar and pricing to how often they’d like to hear from their manager.

Changing property managers is a personal decision. You’ve trusted someone with your home, your calendar and the guests who sleep in it, and if the relationship has stopped feeling right, you’re allowed to want more. This checklist walks through a switch the way owners experience it, using one 2024 Pinnacle Ridge handover as the example.

A word on who’s writing. We’re Whistler residents, and Aloha Whistler has been in business here since 1995, which makes us one of the longest-standing property management companies in Whistler. We live here, so we shop at the same grocery stores your guests do and we know what to tell a guest when the Sea to Sky Highway is moving slowly.

Why do Whistler owners switch property managers?

Most owners switch because the relationship stopped feeling personal, even when the numbers look fine on paper. Calls take longer to come back, the attention promised at the start fades, and you find yourself wondering who is looking after a home you love.

Try this test. Think about when someone last told you something about your home that you didn’t already know. If you can’t remember, you have your answer.

What does white glove property management in Whistler look like?

White glove means the details are handled before anyone has to ask. Guests arrive after a long journey to a home that’s ready for them, with the groceries already in the fridge if the concierge arranged the delivery. Owners hear the story of their own home as well, including who stayed, how it performed against similar Whistler homes and what it needs next.

That’s the thinking behind how we work: dedicated to owners, focused on guests. When one slips, the other usually follows, because a guest who feels looked after leaves a review that helps the owner, and an owner who feels looked after keeps investing in the home. Every home we manage gets an Annual Property Performance Review, so the owner sees the real numbers once a year.

How should the first conversation with a new manager go?

It should be a call where they do most of the listening. They’ll want to hear how you use the home, what has worked and what you wish were different, and you should ask who will look after it day to day and how long they’ve lived and worked in Whistler.

Nothing is decided on that call. If a manager rushes you, that tells you something too.

What happens when a manager walks your home?

They walk it with you, or with someone you trust, before anything changes. They look at the layout, the hot tub, the garage and the bedrooms, and they ask what you love about the place and what you’d change. It’s where you find out whether anyone will notice what makes your home different from the one next door.

On the 2024 Pinnacle Ridge handover, this is where our team first saw what the home could be. It’s a five bedroom townhome in the Upper Village with ski-in ski-out access onto Blackcomb Mountain, and it already had a great deal going for it.

How do you switch managers without disrupting guests who’ve already booked?

You plan the handover around the stays already on your calendar, so every arriving guest still gets a warm welcome. Ask the new team how they’ll look after those guests, and expect an answer that sounds calm and specific, from people who have done this before.

Your calendar should feel like a shared project, not a scramble.

What should the first few weeks after a handover feel like?

They should feel like a team getting to know your home properly. They learn how the hot tub heats, where the best view is, which bedroom the kids always claim and what guests ask about most.

It’s also the moment to say how often you want to hear from them and what you want to hear about, so the rhythm is built around you. You should always know exactly who to call, which matters most when your home is a flight away.

What did the 2024 Pinnacle Ridge handover look like in numbers?

One five bedroom Pinnacle Ridge townhome earned about $200,000 in rental revenue in 2023, the year before we took over management. It earned $320,000 in 2024 and $384,000 in 2025, an increase of about 92% over two years. That’s one home’s result, not a forecast for yours, and results vary by property, location, owner use and market conditions.

How long should you give a new arrangement?

Give it a full season, from the first snow through the summer rush. By the end of it you should know who stayed and why they came, and feel confident that someone is looking after the home the way you would.

If it isn’t there yet, say so early. A manager worth keeping would rather fix it than hear about it late.

IL Caminetto: Sophisticated and elegant Italian classics with a modern touch

 
The ambiance of this restaurant led by some of the country’s top chefs is as mellowed as a finely aged wine, perfectly reflected in its name, which is Italian for “the fireplace.” Exactly where you want to be to tuck yourself away from the winter chill.

Featuring an expertly curated 4-course menu Sunday through Thursday, as well as a modern alla carte menu that reimagines Italian classics, you’ll be hard pressed to choose because everything at Il Caminetto is superb.

Our personal favorite? The currently featured “Prix Fixe” four course menu.

Start things off with a cicchetti of sicilian olives accompanied by roasted tomatoes, chilies, herbs, and orange zest. Next up, your antipasti. How about the Whistler Harvest Mushroom Risotto? Lavishly garnished with grana padano, chives, porcini, and truffle essence, this dish embodies warmth and comfort.

Now for your secondi. We can’t help but recommend the Tagliatelle Bolognese made with Brant Lake wagyu beef. Pair this dish with a recommendation from Il Caminetto’s wine experts and you’ll be in heaven.
